Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 14, 2026

FileTools ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, how it is used, and what rights you have over it. By using filetools.me you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information required to operate and improve our services:

  • Usage data: Pages visited, tools used, browser type, operating system, and approximate country (derived from IP). This data is collected in aggregate by Vercel Analytics and is never linked to an individual identity.
  • Account data (if registered): Email address and display name. You may choose to sign in with a third-party provider (e.g. Google), in which case we receive only the profile data you authorise.
  • Preference data: Cookies for session management, theme preference, and language settings.
  • Files you process: Files submitted for server-side operations (e.g. cloud compression or PDF processing). These are processed temporarily and never used for any other purpose.

2. File Processing and Retention

The majority of FileTools operations run entirely inside your web browser using WebAssembly (WASM). In these cases, your files are never uploaded to our servers.

For operations that require server-side processing, files are transmitted over HTTPS using TLS 1.2 or higher. Uploaded files are stored in an isolated, access-controlled bucket and are automatically and permanently deleted within 24 hours of upload — typically sooner. We do not store, share, or analyse the content of your files.

We never sell, rent, or share file contents with third parties.

3. Cookies and Analytics

We use the following cookie categories:

  • Essential cookies: Required for core platform functionality such as authentication sessions and CSRF protection. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Vercel Analytics collects anonymous, aggregated usage metrics to help us improve performance and usability. No personal identifiers are stored. You can opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser.

You can manage or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies will not affect your ability to use FileTools.

4. Third-Party Services

FileTools uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

  • Vercel — Hosting and edge network. May log IP addresses for security and CDN routing.
  • Vercel Analytics — Privacy-preserving usage analytics.
  • Firebase / Google Cloud — Authentication and optional cloud storage.
  • Supabase — Database and authentication for registered users.

5. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request permanent deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Do Not Sell (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. California residents may submit requests under the CCPA by emailing us.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@filetools.me. We will respond within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS/TLS encryption, access-controlled cloud storage, and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to report any suspected vulnerabilities to legal@filetools.me.

7. Children's Privacy

FileTools is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9. Contact

Privacy and data-related inquiries can be sent to legal@filetools.me. General questions can be directed to support@filetools.me.
